I enjoyed my time there and the food was good. I had the shrimp and scallops. The chef was good but the order of the food being cooked was different from other Japanese steakhouses. The service was great and my drinks was filled on time.

Very dirty. Take your business elsewhere. I only ended up eating here because my very young daughter wanted to. Next time, though, I’ll firmly steer my family somewhere else. If the areas customers can see are dirty, just imagine what the kitchen and other unseen areas look like.

Super disappointed. We drove 2 hours to go to Yamato because when we lived in Gville it was my daughter's favorite. So we went for her birthday (no, we did not take the free meal or even let them know it was a birthday). We met my mother and other daughter there and were excited to celebrate her birthday. Of our party of 5, 3 of us are vegetarian. We ordered 3 tofu hibachi dinners and 2 chicken. The rest of the people from the 2 other couples had meat as well. We had double salad instead of soup, we knew that from going there many times before. The server was great. She kept up on refills and checking in on everyone. When the teppanyaki chef came out, we asked for the tofu and veggies to be cooked separate from the meat, which has never been a problem at Yamato or Kobe. The chef said he could not because he only had one spatula. So we ate our fill of fried rice, some of the tofu because he 'wiped the spatula' on a dirty towel for us. We did not eat the veggies because the spatula went between wet chicken, wet shrimp, and the veggies. The veggies were served before the meats were fully cooked and we just pushed them to the side. First off, when we moved here, I could have sworn we did not have a “live” hibachi restaurant in town, so when I found Yamato, I was extra excited to try it! To be fair, we went on an extremely busy Friday night with graduations and events happening all over town. When we arrived, we were quoted a 20–25 minute wait, which ended up being closer to 45 minutes. Things happen, especially on nights like that, so we rolled with it. After we were seated, though, it was pretty quiet for another 15–20 minutes before anyone came over. Finally, a young waitress came up and jokingly said, “Well, I guess I’m your waitress now,” and apologized several times. Honestly, I appreciated the honesty because it genuinely felt like they may have been short staffed or had someone quit unexpectedly. Having worked in restaurants myself when I was younger, I know how chaotic nights like that can become, so I really tried to give them grace. Once things got going, the experience definitely improved. The chef was incredibly nice, and I was honestly disappointed that I missed recording his sweet egg flip on camera! I’ve been to Yamato’s many times, but I’ve never had an experience like this! Chef Collin was incredibly personable and made the entire afternoon unforgettable. You can truly tell he enjoys what he does—the food was absolutely amazing and full of flavor. At one point, another customer even came over to our table just to rave about how lucky we were to have him as our chef and said she wished she could switch tables—that says it all! Chef Collin gets 10,000 stars from me. I will definitely be back and requesting him again!
